If you have a Davidson College computer, the best method for resetting your password is to reset it from your device. Using other methods to reset your password may result in your password getting out of sync between systems such as email, and the computer itself.
Please note, if you're working remotely, you'll need to take a few additional steps to ensure your password is reset correctly.

What if your password is out of sync?
Connecting to VPN
Whether you are on a Mac or Windows computer, you will need to be connected through VPN. Once connected to VPN, please see the below steps for your particular computer.
If you've Never used VPN before, please see the knowledge base article linked below for more information:
Set Up and Connect to VPN on Your Computer
- If you are not connected to VPN when attempting this, you may receive an error stating that the domain controller cannot be found.
Helpful tip! VPN acts as a 'bridge' of sorts to our on-campus network. In this case, the objective is to get your computer to properly communicate the password change with T&I's resources on campus which handle the password changes across various systems, such as Email or Banner.
MacOS
- Log in with your current username and password.
- In the upper left corner, click on the Apple icon.
- In the drop-down menu, select System Preferences...
- In the System Preferences dialog box, click on the Users & Groups icon.
- Click on your name in the left frame.
- With your name highlighted in the left frame, click on the Change Password... button to the right.
- Follow the prompts to reset your password.
Windows
- Log in with your current username and password.
- Press the Ctrl, Alt and Del keys simultaneously. On Apple keyboards (a dual-boot iMac, for example), the keys will be labeled control, option and delete.
- Select Change a password and follow the prompts.
What if my passwords are already out of sync?
If your passwords are already out of sync, we'll want to remedy this as some applications will not work properly until the passwords are back in sync.
For Macs- At this time T&I's recommendation is to follow the above process to reset your password to a new password, due to the way the passwords are updated in your Mac's keychain.
For Windows Computers- You will first need to be signed into VPN as mentioned above. After signing in, press Ctrl. + Alt. +Delete, and select the Lock option. Once your computer is locked, sign back in with your new password. No need to worry if the new password does not work. Your old password should still work. If this does not properly update to the new password, please contact us.
