Add and Remove Members in Active Directory Distribution Lists/Shared Mailbox Groups - Windows

This process only works for Windows users who are designated as "manager" of the distribution list/shared mailbox group in question.

Setup (First Time Only)

  1. Open Windows
  2. Right-click on the Windows desktop and select New > Shortcut
  3. In the Type the location of the item field, type the following:
    C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe dsquery.dll OpenQueryWindow
  4. Click on the Next button
  5. Type a name for the shortcut (Manage Groups for example) and click on the Finish button

Steps to Add a New Member to a List

  1. Double-click on the shortcut to launch the process
  2. In the Name field, type in the name of the group (e.g. DIFA) and click on the Find Now button
  3. In the Search results list, double-click on the name of the group (e.g. DIFA_MBX_GROUP)
  4. Click on the Add... button to add new members
  5. Type in the Davidson username of the member to be added and click on the OK button
  6. Click on the Apply button and then OK

Steps to Remove a Member From a List

  1. Double-click on the shortcut to launch the process
  2. In the Name field, type in the name of the group (e.g. DIFA) and click on the Find Now button
  3. In the Search results list, double-click on the name of the group (e.g. DIFA_MBX_GROUP)
  4. Select the person to be removed and click on the Remove... button
  5. Click on the Yes button to confirm the deletion.
  6. Click on the Apply button and then OK
