Davidson Domains grew out of the Domain of One’s Own (#DoOO) project at the University of Mary Washington managed by the Division of Teaching and Learning Technologies (DTLT).
Davidson Domains allows students, faculty, and staff to register their own domain name and associate it with a hosted web space, free of charge, while at Davidson College. With their Domain and corresponding web space, users have the opportunity and flexibility to design and create a meaningful and vibrant digital presence.
Davidson’s Digital Learning Team works with faculty and departments to meaningfully integrate Domains into their praxis in order to ensure that students are gaining varied and valuable digital experiences during their time at Davidson College. Ultimately we support the Davidson community to use Domains to cultivate a digital profile for their academic and professional work.
Within Domains, users may install LAMP-compatible web applications, set up subdomains and email addresses, and install databases. In addition, users may choose to “map” their domain (or a subdomain) to other services, such as social media accounts, blogs, Google Sites, Tumblr, or Medium.
After you first register your domain you will be sent a confirmation email. This email may go into spam or junk folders so please find it. YOU NEED TO VERIFY YOUR EMAIL WITHIN 48 HOURS OF REGISTERING SO PLEASE FIND THE EMAIL ASAP AND CONFIRM.
If you cannot find the verify email in any of your inboxes, write ti@davidson.edu and let us know so we can help :)
