Enroll a test user in your Moodle course - Faculty

It is sometimes very useful to have a test user enrolled in your Moodle course. You, as a teacher, can then log into Moodle under the test user's account and test out quizzes, forums or group activities.

Note:
If you will be testing LockDown Browser quizzes in your course, you will not be able to use the testing approach presented on this page. Please contact ti@davidson.edu and we will work with you directly.

Enroll the test user in your course

  1. Launch Moodle (https://moodle.davidson.edu) and open your course.
  2. In the upper right corner of the screen, click on the "gear" icon to open the course settings.
  3. On the resulting drop-down list, click on the More... option.
  4. Just under the words Course administration on the left side of the screen, click on the Users tab.
  5. In the Users section, click on the Enrolled users link.
  6. In the upper right corner, click on the Enroll users button.
  7. In the Assign roles drop-down list box at the top of the dialog box, confirm Student is selected.
  8. In the Search field, type test and click on the Search button.
  9. The list of test users should now appear in your list. Click on the Enroll button to the right of the test user’s name.
  10. If you need to enroll additional participants, return to step 8. If not, click on the Finish enrolling users button at the bottom of the dialog box.
  11. You can now return to your course using the Back button.

Log into Moodle using the test user account

  1. ***IMPORTANT*** You need to log out of Moodle and close your browser. 

    Note:
    Using the test user account requires that you log into Moodle in a slightly different way. Therefore, you must first log out of the "normal" Moodle and close your web browser.

  2. Launch your browser and open https://moodle.davidson.edu/login/index.php?saml=off
  3. The login screen should now look quite different from the normal Moodle login. In the first text field in the upper left corner, enter the test user name in the format testuser99 
  4. In the field under the user name, type in the assigned test user password. If you don't already have the password, you will need to speak with someone at the Service Desk to get it. We do not send passwords via email.
  5. Click on the Log in button.
  6. On the Moodle home page, click on name of the course you'd like to open.

Switch back to your normal Moodle account

  1. ***IMPORTANT*** You need to log out of Moodle and close your browser.

    Note:
    The Moodle login procedure for test users and normal users differs. As such, to switch back to your normal Moodle experience, you must log out of the test account and close your web browser.

  2. Launch your browser and open https://moodle.davidson.edu
  3. Click on the Login link in the upper right corner to log into Moodle with your normal Davidson credentials.
