Set up the Scheduler plugin in Moodle - Faculty

The Scheduler plugin allows faculty to create a set of "slots" in Moodle to which students enroll. For example, the faculty member creates 20 half-hour time slots and students then choose which slot(s) they want. Once a slot is filled, it disappears from Moodle preventing any other students from selecting it.

Add the new activity - Faculty

  1. Launch Moodle (https://moodle.davidson.edu) and open your course.
  2. In the upper right corner of the screen, click on the "gear" icon to open the course settings.
  3. On the resulting drop-down list, select the Turn editing on menu option.
  4. Click on the Add an activity or resource link in the section where you’d like the scheduled activity to appear.
  5. In the Activities section, select the Scheduler radio button and click on the Add button.
  6. Give your new schedule activity a name. This is what the students will see and click on.
  7. Enter a description (optional) and then click on the Save and return to course button.

Add slots to the schedule - Faculty

  1. Back on the main course page, click on the schedule activity that you created in the first step.
  2. Click on the Add slots link along the left side of the page. Select either Add repeated slots (most common) or Add single slot to define the type of schedule you are building.
  3. If you select Add repeated slots you will need to complete the following fields:
    • Start date
    • End date
    • Days of the week
    • Divide into slots?
    • Duration of each slot
    • Maximum number of students per slot
    • Location
    • Teacher
    • When you complete the above information, click on Save changes and the slots will be created.
  4. If you select Add single slot you will need to complete the following fields:
    • Date
    • Duration
    • Maximum number of students per slot
    • Location
    • Teacher
    • When you complete the above information, click on Save changes and the slot will be created.

Sign up for a slot in the activity - Student

  1. Click on the scheduled activity in your course.
  2. All available slots on the schedule will be displayed. Slots that have already been taken will not appear on the schedule. To select a slot, click on the appropriate Book slot button.
  3. If at any point in the future you want to change your slot, you can reopen the schedule activity and click on the Cancel booking button.
