For local/long distance calls, simply type 8 + 1 + area code + local number.
For example, a call to Rochester, New York from Davidson, NC might be 8 1 585 5555555

International

Dial 8 + 011 + country code + city code + local number
For example, a call to London, England might be 8 011 44 7911 555555

Please note that Canada and the Bahamas are treated as domestic long distance.
