Touch ID for Duo

Touch ID can be used in place of a traditional Duo push while on Chrome and Firefox for Mac OS, but it requires additional setup.

Prerequisites

Before Touch ID can be added to your Duo account, you must:

  • Have Touch ID setup on your device, this can be done following Apple's instructions here.
  • Request access to enroll in Touch ID for Duo by contacting T&I at ti@davidson.edu.

Once you receive confirmation from T&I that your account has access, you will have two days to complete the device enrollment process. After that, your access to the "Manage Devices" tab will be automatically revoked.

Enroll Touch ID

Follow these steps to enroll your Touch ID when ready:

  1. Open an incognito/private browsing tab (How Do I Open a Private Browsing or Incognito Window)
  2. Navigate to identity.davidson.edu and enter your email/password, but DO NOT APPROVE DUO PUSH!
  3. At the bottom of the Duo prompt, select "Other options"
  4. Select "Manage Devices" from the bottom of the list and approve the DUO PUSH to verify your identity

  5. Once in the dashboard, select "Add a device"
  6. In the Add a device menu, select Touch ID

  7. Click Continue when prompted

  8. Save the passkey by touching the Touch ID sensor
  9. Click Continue when prompted

  10. Confirm Touch ID shows in Dashboard

Using Touch ID for Duo

Touch ID may not be the first option available upon your next Duo prompt. Select "Other Options" to choose Touch ID. Duo should remember this option first next time.
