Spring and Summer 2025 Network Work

Davidson T&I will be updating the Davidson network across the spring and summer of 2025. Phase 1 began March 24 and involves updating the security standards of the wired network. Phase 2 began on June 2 and was focused on updating the wireless access points (WiFi transmitters) across campus. Phase 2 is now complete.

About This Work

Phase 1: Underway through Mid-July

Phase 1 began March 24 and involves updating the security standards of the wired network.

During each building’s maintenance period, individual networked devices, including Wi-Fi hubs, printers, phones, Zoom Rooms, conference rooms, and some other connected devices will be switched to the new standard. Individual network ports that faculty and staff computers are plugged into will also be updated.

This maintenance does not include lab computers, AV equipment, or Physical Plant building management systems.

Updates will happen at one network location at a time, and disruption periods should be short for each location or device. You may experience intermittent Wi-Fi interruptions on your building’s network maintenance day, but they should be brief and infrequent.

Phase 2: Wireless Completion List

Details about this Update
If your computer or phone is near several different transmitters, your internet access will automatically switch to an available transmitter. If your device is unable to switch to another transmitter, you'll notice a WiFi outage of 10-15 minutes. Phase 2 only affects wireless connections. If you do not currently have a wired network connection available in your office, and would like to request a specific network port be activated, please email ti@davidson.edu by May 30.

If you have questions about contractors in your building please contact ti@davidson.edu or call 704-894-2900. T&I is working with physical plant staff to gain access to spaces as needed.
