Guidance on Personal and Departmental Printers

Effective February 2026, T&I’s support and procurement practices for printers and multi-function devices (print/copy/scan) have changed. This article provides guidance on supported printing services and legacy departmental and personal printers.

Limited Support, Purchase Limitations for Personal and Departmental Printers

Supported Printing Services

The campus’ fleet of PawPrint print/scan/copy devices from Toshiba is the supported option for printing and related functions. All students are encouraged to make use of this service for their printing needs. Faculty, staff and others working for Davidson should plan to use PawPrint as their main solution for printing services, and are encouraged to contact Post & Print in the Union for advanced copy, print and fulfillment needs.

Legacy Departmental and Personal Printers/MFDs

Historically, some individuals and departments have procured personal or departmental printers through T&I for local use. With the PawPrint fleet refresh, college leadership has adopted new practices for such devices, reflecting the desire for PawPrint to be the supported printing solution to reduce cost and improve the efficiency of support.

  • Any requests for new printers outside the PawPrint fleet, or to replace existing legacy printers, must be approved by the division’s Vice President or division head as well as by the Chief Information Officer.

  • No technical support will be provided for existing legacy printers outside the PawPrint fleet, except for approved exceptions that require technology support for college operations and where PawPrint cannot serve the function (e.g., a specialty check printer for the Controller’s Office, etc.)
