Technology for Teaching & Learning

Davidson T&I offers an array of platforms and programs to support teaching and learning. Tell us what you want to do, and we'll show you the best choices to accomplish your goals. For further questions or more information, contact ti@davidson.edu.

I want to...

SHARE TEXTUAL CONTENT WITH MY STUDENTS

Moodle

Moodle is Davidson's Learning Management System (LMS). Consult the Moodle articles in our knowledge base, or contact Holly White, our instructional designer, for more information.

Library physical reserves/e-reserves

  • Physical Reserves – Physical books and videos are available through the E.H. Little Library.
  • Electronic Reserves – Articles, book chapters, and other electronic documents can be made available in Leganto through Moodle for your course(s).
SHARE MULTIMEDIA CONTENT (VIDEO, AUDIO, IMAGES) WITH MY STUDENTS

YuJa Enterprise Video Platform

YuJa Enterprise Video Platform (EVP) is our media content management system, available through Moodle as an external tool, or via a portal interface. EVP allows the storage, editing, and sharing of digital media (video, images, and audio), can automatically store and transcribe Zoom recordings, and is available to all faculty, staff, and students.

RECORD A LECTURE, PRESENTATION, OR TUTORIAL FROM MY COMPUTER

Yuja EVP or Zoom

Both EVP and Zoom let faculty, staff, and students create screencasts -- that is, video recording of the computer screen and an optional second source, with a voiceover track. After recording, a video may be edited as required and automatically captioned in EVP, and shared either privately or publicly.

RUN A LIVE ONLINE SESSION (GUEST SPEAKER, OFFICE HOURS)

Zoom

Zoom may be used for live webinars, virtual classes, group collaboration, and multiuser text chat.

GET STUDENT FEEDBACK DURING CLASS TIME

Poll Everywhere

Poll Everywhere lets you create live online polls, surveys, and quizzes, integrated with PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides, to increase student engagement, take attendance, etc. For assistance using Poll Everywhere in your classes, contact coursesupport@davidson.edu.

GET STUDENT FEEDBACK OUTSIDE OF CLASS TIME

Moodle

Moodle's Feedback activity lets you create and conduct surveys to collect feedback. Unlike the Survey tool, it allows you to write your own questions, rather than choose from a list of pre-written questions and unlike the Quiz tool, you can create non-graded questions.

LET STUDENTS POST VIDEOS OF THEMSELVES (PRESENTING, PERFORMING)

YuJa EVP or Zoom

EVP and Zoom both offer video recording, storage, and sharing for students. If you have questions, please contact ti@davidson.edu, or Digital Learning at coursesupport@davidson.edu.

HOLD AN ASYNCHRONOUS DISCUSSION WITH STUDENTS

Moodle Forums

Asynchronous discussions can be used to inspire and promote critical thinking. The forum activity in Moodle allows all participants to initiate and join in discussions on any desired topic.

LET STUDENT GROUPS COORDINATE PROJECT WORK

Moodle Groups

In Moodle, Groups are subsets of your course roster, and may be applied at the level of an entire course or, if supported, per activity.

GIVE STUDENTS A WAY TO WRITE ESSAYS AND/OR JOURNALS, OR UPLOAD FILES

Moodle Assignments

Moodle Assignments allow students to demonstrate an understanding of course material. Instructors can provide feedback on assignments in the LMS.

LET MY STUDENTS SHOW THEIR TEXT, DOCUMENTS, AUDIO, VIDEO, IMAGES, OR OTHER MULTIMEDIA ONLINE

Davidson Domains

The Davidson Domains project provides all students and faculty with a personal web space, managed and maintained by the user.

LET STUDENTS COLLABORATE VIA A DIGITAL WHITEBOARD

Zoom

Zoom's integrated whiteboard provides collaborative, interactive space for the exchange of ideas and information. Collaborators can choose to start from scratch, or use any of a variety of prebuilt templates.

LET STUDENTS ANNOTATE DIGITAL READINGS

Hypothes.is

Hypothes.is allows social annotation of PDFs uploaded to Moodle. Students and faculty can annotate readings, and asynchronously respond to each other’s comments and questions.
