Power BI reports are moving from data.davidson.edu to the Power Bl cloud, available at app.powerbi.com. This transition will begin in March of 2024, and wrap up by September 1, 2024. Departments and groups will be migrated in phases. T&I staff will contact each department or group directly with specific timelines and instructions.

About Power BI Cloud

Starting this spring and lasting through the summer, the T&I Data Management team will begin moving all remaining reports that exist on data.davidson.edu into the Power BI cloud, available at app.powerbi.com. This transition will help Davidson better align to a number of our institutional goals, including enhanced data security and a cloud-first technology strategy. It will also help us consolidate our enterprise reports in one application, simplify how we manage access and licenses, and deliver exciting new capabilities for data analysts and end users across the college.

Details about the Transition to Power BI Cloud

The transition to PowerBI.com will be done gradually over the Spring and Summer of 2024, moving one department or group at a time, with direct communications from the T&I Data Management team to those staff and faculty who will be directly impacted. 

Some groups have already transitioned from data.davidson.edu to the Power BI cloud, and some of the reports on data.davidson.edu were made obsolete by the college’s switch to Oracle for HR and finance. There are still many reports that remain operational for Admission and Financial Aid, College Relations, Finance & Administration, and other teams. Some of the legacy budget reports from Banner will also be a part of this transition, as will rosters for department chairs, faculty advisers, and holistic advisers.

Faculty class rosters will not be moved to Power BI Cloud, as those reports will be moving into Banner Self-Service once the upgrade to version 9 is complete in Spring of 2024. 

Most reports will be migrated with no changes, but certain ones may need fixes or enhancements to make them function in the cloud.  We will notify you ahead of time if this is required for any of your reports.

At the conclusion of the transition period there will be no reports left on data.davidson.edu, and the site will be shut down by September 1, 2024.
