Measures Explained

When browsing a tabular model, any object with a sigma symbol (Σ) next to it is a group of Measures. Measures represent pre-aggregated values such as counts, sums, averages, percentiles, and they calculate dynamically based on how many rows are visible in your report. Measures can be grouped into folders for better organization. Some examples of Measures that might be relevant to you:

  • Total count of students enrolled at Davidson
  • Total count of applications submitted last year
  • The 90th percentile ACT score for this year's incoming class
  • Year-to-date (YTD) and year-over-year (YOY) measures

From these groups of Measures, you can drag and drop fields into your report and see how measures change over time. We'll show you an example below.
