The Softdocs Etrieve platform combines document management, electronic forms and workflow automation functionality into an easily scalable, seamless enterprise content management experience. This product can be used by all departments that need to securely store documents and classify them as specific document types, apply values to keywords in order to file those documents and to quickly search for them to retrieve them later. Access to documents is configurable so only authorized users can file and/or retrieve documents. Documents are accessed directly via the sub-product Etrieve Content. Forms and Approval workflows are accessed by users via the sub-product Etrieve Central. There are other Etrieve products (i.e. Etrieve Security) that are only available to administrators.

Data in Softdocs Etrieve may be classified as 1-Confidential, or 2-Official Use Only and is subject to usage outlined in the Administrative Data Security Policy.
While there is no limit to the number of users (staff and faculty) set up to use Softdocs Etrieve, there is a limit to 40 concurrent users. Use of a desktop scanner with Etrieve requires a separate license, and these are limited to 20 named users. There is no limit to the use of network scanners with Etrieve.
