PawPrint for Students

PawPrint is a networked printing software application that allows students and employees to print from personal computers, Davidson College-managed devices, and public labs to networked printers available across campus. This article will walk you through how to print and release documents, copy and scan using PawPrint as a student.

Do I need to download anything to start using PawPrint?

Yes!  Students on personal devices can use PawPrint by downloading and installing PawPrint. 

PawPrint Installation Instructions

Once you've installed PawPrint, you are ready to print your document(s). Submit a print job as you normally would and select PawPrint from the printer list.  In some programs, you may need to select a dropdown to view the complete list of available printers. If you are printing from GSuite (Docs, Sheets, etc.), select “see more” to view a complete list of available printers.


PawPrint Printer Types for Students

Choose the PawPrint options that best meet your printing, scanning, and copying needs.

  • PawPrint
    Meets basic printing needs for students. Documents will print B/W only, and two-sided by default. We recommend setting this as your default printer on your device. To set a default printer, right-click and choose “set as default”.  There is no charge to students for B/W printing.

  • PawPrint Student Advanced - Canon 
    Color printing on all Canons, and advanced finishing features including stapling and 3-hole punch. Students will be charged $.06 cents per colored side printed, deducted from the declining balance on your CatCard. If you have no declining balance, you will not be able to print in color. You can add to your declining balance at catcard.davidson.edu.

  • PawPrint Student Advanced - HP
    On HPs that support it, color printing and advanced finishing features including stapling. Some of the HP printers are monochrome only. Students will be charged $.06 cents per colored side printed, deducted from the declining balance on your CatCard. If you have no declining balance, you will not be able to print in color. You can add to your declining balance at catcard.davidson.edu.

  • PawPrint Employee (student employees only)
    Student employees should use PawPrint Employee if printing for their department. You'll be prompted to choose the department to charge at the printer. PawPrint Employee is installed on all Davidson owned computers.

    If you need to print work-related documents using your personal device, you'll need to add the PawPrint Employee option to your list of printers. Learn more about printing and copying for your campus job.


Printer Basics

Print Release

To release your job from a printer, go to any PawPrint location, Tap your CatCard or put in your Davidson credentials to log into the printer, and select Print Release. Check the document that you'd like to print, then click print.


Printing in Color

Color printing for students is $.06 cents per colored side printed, deducted from the declining balance on your CatCard. If you are a student printing in color for your work-study job, learn how to charge to your department rather than your declining balance.

Make sure you have a balance available on your CatCard. If you have no declining balance, you will not be able to print in color. You can add to your declining balance at catcard.davidson.edu.

Send your job to a printer marked PawPrint Advanced - HP or PawPrint Advanced - Canon.

Copying

Go to a PawPrint location that supports photocopying. All PawPrint Canon devices do, but some HP printers do not have this option.

Tap your CatCard or put in your Davidson credentials to log into the printer, and the follow the below steps based on what printer you are using.

  • Canon
    • Choose Access Device
    • Click Access Device again (on the screen with your name)
    • Choose Copy

  • HP (selected locations)
    • Choose Copy 

Scanning

Go to a PawPrint location that supports photocopying. All PawPrint Canon devices do, but some HP printers do not have this option.

Tap your CatCard or put in your Davidson credentials to log into the printer, and the follow the below steps based on what printer you are using.

  • Select Scan
  • Choose Scan to Email, Dropbox, or Google
  • Scan your document
  • You will receive an email to authorize scanning to Google Drive the first time you select the option. Follow the instructions to complete the authorization. Scan to Google Drive authorization example.
